Youth & Shelter Services, Inc. (YSS) has celebrated its 35th Anniversary this year. Many special events have been held throughout the year and have incorporated the recognition of volunteers, donors, past staff, and other contributors who have been significant in the founding, growth, and evolution of YSS. Founder’s awards were presented to 39 individuals throughout the year who were recognized at events and received a Founder’s brick to be placed in the Youth & Family Center Family Brick Plaza.
YSS youth, staff, and volunteers participated with an entry in the VEISHEA parade with the Sheltered Reality drum corps and displayed the 35th anniversary banner. This banner was also displayed over Main Street in Ames.
A Founder’s Day celebration was held in June in conjunction with the McCay Parenting Achievement Award luncheon and the 35th Anniversary finale was celebrated at YSS’s Annual Holiday Luncheon in December. Founder’s awards were given at these two events as well as the Daedalus/Icarus Social in May and the Family Life Center Phase 2 Dedication event in September.
YSS’s 35th Anniversary History Book was compiled and distributed throughout the year at events and is available by contacting YSS at 233-3141 or stopping by the headquarters at 420 Kellogg Avenue in Ames.
YSS is proud of its 35 year history of service to tens of thousands of youth and their families. We look forward to many more years of helping the next generation soar to a brighter future.
