(YSS) exists to provide prevention, education, treatment and residential services to children, youth and families; to advocate on their behalf; and to help them solve problems, grow and be self-sufficient, responsible, contributing members of society.
The Iowa Homeless Youth Centers works to eliminate homelessness among children, youth and young mothers in Polk County. We believe, with support and assistance, homeless individuals and families can live independently and attain self-sufficiency.
Promote community youth development and asset building.
Reduce the number of teens in locked settings and in institutions.
Increase community awareness of needs and problems of troubled youth and their families.
Divert young people from the juvenile courts back into the community.
Promote family life enrichment and self-sufficiency.
Reduce the number of runaway and homeless youth.
Prevent substance abuse and delinquency.
Treat chemical dependency and emotional disorders.
Care for youth in their own communities.
Resolve conflicts between parents and youth.
