Lighthouse Host Home
The Lighthouse Host Home Transitional living center providing services to homeless pregnant and/or parenting young moms, ages 16 thru 25, and their children. 
The Lighthouse accommodates up to six moms who are welcome to stay for up to two years. While at the Lighthouse, the moms are assisted with education goals, vocational skills, living skills, prenatal, postnatal and parenting skills. Staff members provide around-the-clock support and the case manager will work one-on-one with each participant to assist them in achieving the ultimate goal of self-sufficiency.
Volunteers have the opportunity to plan recreational activities for the participants out in the Des Moines community. They may assist the women with grocery shopping, job searching, or even a trip to the park for a participant and her children. Volunteers may also provide car rides to the women to help aid in job searching or keeping scheduled appointments which might otherwise be hard to attend without transportation.
Child care is also a big part of the Lighthouse Host Home. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed so the participants may sit through classes, attend meetings, complete studies and shop for groceries.
