Youth & Shelter Services Prevention Services
The YSS Prevention staff is committed to presenting effective prevention programming. Our primary focus is to provide programs which are science-based and/or follow best practices guidelines. The term “science-based” is used to describe programs which have met rigorous standards proving their effectiveness and validity. These programs are often longer in length, but in return, students are able to integrate a greater level of knowledge and positive behavior change.
Best practices refer to initiatives that take a very comprehensive approach in working in the community to promote pro-social behavior. Schools and community groups can request various informational and educational presentations regarding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, violence prevention, and youth development. They too are part of an overall comprehensive approach that is used to address problems in the community.
