Runaway/Homeless Services

Rosedale Shelter

A shelter for youth who:

  • have run away or are homeless
  • need help resolving family conflicts
  • have been abused or neglected
  • are adjudicated and waiting for court action

Located in historic Old Town Ames, Rosedale Shelter gives youth in crisis a safe, structured home.

A caring team works together toward a common goal to reunite youth with families whenever possible.

Services

  • On-site shelter services for boys/girls ages 10-17
  • Food, shelter and 24-hour supervision
  • 15-bed capacity
  • Crisis mediation
  • Area Education Agency classroom
  • Recreation
  • Educational group discussions, covering sex and drug education, conflict resolution, problem solving and basic life skills.
  • Group and individual support
  • Referral for specialized services
  • Unlocked facility

  • Individual, group, and family counseling
  • Evaluation and diagnostic services:

                               - Psychological evaluation and testing
                               - Substance abuse evaluation and diagnosis
                               - Court testimony and recommendations

  • Intensive supervision/ one-on-one monitoring
  • Employment counseling/ job training
  • Nurturing parent education courses

*Parent placements are accepted from Story, Boone and Marshall Counties on a sliding fee scale for up to 48 hours.  Within the 48 hours, the parent(s), child, and a YSS therapist/mediator will schedule one session to assess the presenting problems, identify any safety issues and formulate a plan of action with the goal of reunification.
