Reggie’s Sleepout is a way that you, your family, friends and/or co-workers can gain education about homelessness, while helping hundreds of homeless youth in the Polk County transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. In 2008, we had over 1,000 participants and raised over $150,000. We hope to make this year even more of a success!
According to data from the 2007 Iowa Statewide Homeless Survey, there are 27,571 homeless and near-homeless people in Iowa and nearly 10,031 homeless and near-homeless people in Polk County. Iowa Homeless Youth Centers worked with 647 different participants in the last calendar year.
A perfect way to educate yourself and children about homelessness!
So how can you help? Reggie’s Sleepout helps to raise funds to support the Iowa Homeless Youth Centers. To help, you can raise funds to support local homeless youth, Sleepout on October 24th- showing your support for homelessness education and elimination and help spread the word on how IHYC is helping homeless youth.
Have you asked your co-workers if they would want to start or join your team?
To get involved in the Sleepout, you can register to sleepout, to donate or to sign up to volunteer that evening, please go to www.reggiessleepout.org.

Nationwide Insurance presents the
2009 Reggie’s Sleepout Boxed-In Design Contest
We want you to express what Reggie’s Sleepout and/or Homelessness means to you. Put on your creative hats and design a shelter that exhibits the following criteria: education/theme regarding homelessness, creativity, warmth, comfort, and livability. Remember that in addition to promoting homelessness awareness, your box also needs to be as warm and comfortable as possible for you to spend the night. We recommend placing a tarp or plastic under your shelter for added warmth.
To enter the contest, download the form from the links below, complete the entry form and submit at registration the night of the event. (Look for the Boxed-In Design Contest sign) All entry forms must be received by 5:30 pm in order to be eligible for the contest. Judging will take place starting at 7:00 pm with the winners announced at or around 10:00 in the Field House. Pictures of the winning entries and their ‘stories’ will be posted on the Nationwide Insurance Boxed-In Design Award Board in the Field House following the presentation of awards and certificates.
